Deweer Family

The Deweer family boasts more than 40 years of experience in collecting, exhibiting, trading, and storing contemporary international art. Gerald Deweer
has long placed his expertise in the optimal storage and preservation of valuable pieces at the service of enthusiasts and collectors. Recently, the site in Otegem was significantly expanded with a stylish and hyper-modern new building, which houses 81 additional storage units.

Deweer Gallery was founded in 1979 by Mark Deweer, then a carpet weaver, out of his passion for art. It grew into one of the most important galleries for contemporary art, both in Belgium and internationally. Located in rural Otegem, the gallery was known for discovering talent early and providing long-term guidance to artists, earning a strong reputation for “building” artists’ careers. Deweer Gallery introduced influential art movements such as the German Neue Wilde and the Italian Transavanguardia to Belgium and collaborated with many renowned artists.

A selection from the extensive list of artists: Stephan Balkenhol, Georg Baselitz, Enzo Cucchi, Jan Fabre, Rainer Fetting, Günther Förg, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Enrique Marty, Mimmo Paladino, Panamarenko, A.R. Penck, and Koen Vanmechelen.

Over the years, the gallery organized numerous solo and group exhibitions and participated in international art fairs. In addition, it built up an extensive art collection (approx. 1,700 pieces). In 2019, Deweer Gallery celebrated its 40th anniversary with a major retrospective exhibition. At the end of that year, the gallery closed its doors and continued as Deweer Gallery Estate, with the focus remaining on managing the collection and supporting artists.

Gradually, the activities of Deweer Storage were expanded. In addition, the former exhibition spaces and offices were renovated and optimized in 2026 under the name Deweer Platform into breathtaking event and meeting boxes.
The range of both storage and event and meeting spaces that Gerald Deweer offers today is unique. Furthermore, meetings take on a different dimension thanks to the artistic approach and conceptual design of the meeting rooms.
